Oxbow Academy is designed for boys 13-17 who struggle with a variety of behavioral issues that includes ADHD, anxiety, depression, adoption, and other psychological concerns. These troubled teens have also acted out in a sexually inappropriate manner, either within their homes, the community, or other therapeutic programs.

All of our students are placed privately by their families, therapists, or other program referrals. Parents are asked to fill out the treatment amenability assessment online. The admissions, clinical director, and the treatment team will review this information prior to admission. Teens that meet the admission criteria will be listed as being eligible for the program. The youth are then placed into treatment on a space available basis.

Students who are most likely to benefit from treatment at Oxbow Academy are those dealing with issues such as:

  • Depressive Disorders
  • Anxiety
  • Self-injurious behavior
  • Social incompetence
  • Substance Abuse
  • School/ADHD
  • Family/Relational issues
  • Trauma/PTSD
  • Reactive Attachment
  • Adoption
  • Pornography
  • Sexual Issues

These students are also:

  • Non-violent
  • Their sexual activity did not involve any bizarre or ritualistic interpersonal acts
  • Their sexual behavior is an incident with no history of chronic antisocial or violent behavior
  • There is no evidence of any serious psychopathology
  • The student acknowledges his behaviors and is motivated for treatment

Not all students will be eligible for Oxbow Academy Services. Some possible exclusions from treatment may include but are not limited to:

OXBOW NEWS

"When I first came into the program I was angry that I had to be here for my inappropriate behaviors. I didn't care about all of the people that I hurt from my actions. Then about two months into the program, I started to realize how much I took my family for granted and I wish I wouldn't have ever hurt my family in the many ways that I did."
